Your social media personality could get you hired

I recently spoke with the HR manager for Barkley during an agency tour. Being a soon-to-be college graduate, I asked her what things I could do to make myself stand apart from other applicants. I also asked her if she suggested I include a personal blog or Web site, which led her to a story about one of Barkley’s recent hires:

Barkley needed someone who was social media savvy and who would match one of their “upbeat” clients. Another co-worker saw Twitter feeds from a young lady who had a very funny and quirky personality in all of her posts. This then led the co-worker to check out her personal blog, which displayed the same energizing personality. Barkley realized she would be the perfect match for one of their clients and offered her a job.

In conclusion, recent graduates should try to increase their social media web presence, as well as decide what kind of “voice” they will have (funny, sarcastic, strictly professional, sincere…). Your “social  media personality” could open up many doors!
